Finn Dickens is an Austin pianist working across jazz, classical, and contemporary music. Classically trained at Armstrong Community Music School, he turned to jazz and improvisation in high school, earning First Chair Pianist honors in the TPSMEA All-State Jazz Band and becoming a finalist in the Butler Texas Young Composer’s Concert before graduating in 2020.
At the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin, Finn studied contemporary composition before concentrating on jazz performance under Ross Margitza. He performed with the UT Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Diego Rivera and with the Alternative Improv Music Ensemble, and began accompanying ballet during his senior year. Finn earned a B.A. in Music with a concentration in composition and has worked with Austin composer, bandleader, and improviser Graham Reynolds since college.
He performs regularly with country artist Coleman Jennings, and has appeared on bills with Willie Nelson and Dwight Yoakam. He also plays with rock, pop, R&B, and country projects throughout Austin, and regularly sits in at jam sessions at local jazz clubs.
